Teach English As a Second Language in Kampala

Teach English As a Second Language in KampalaTeacher Dapo Dika from Kibale in northern Uganda is one of the world's most promising and innovative teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL). He is also a tutor who teaches that many Uganda students need more than basic teaching in order to be successful. Now that he has been awarded the 2020-08 Better Educator of the Year award, he wants to impart to other teachers the value of teaching English as a Second Language. Here is an excerpt from his article 'Teaching ESL' for the Uganda Times.First, it is important to ensure that each child who is working with us is taught English at the same time as with other standard subjects, and not by completing two subjects at the same time. In addition, this should also be addressed so that they get a proper education and are not forced to learn one after the other. At a basic level, a child will not learn English and only earn two degrees before he/she graduates from high school.Secondly, a chil d should also learn English so that he/she can carry on with their studies in addition to the standard subjects. This will allow the children to have an extra outlet in which they can express themselves and to focus on something they are passionate about, i.e.Thirdly, online computer or the Internet is a good method of communication. The pupils are able to receive and learn from the teacher without having to physically meet him/her. This is very good for our children, for they will learn English at their own pace, but still, they can benefit from the English teaching through the Internet.Fourthly, Teaching English as a Second Language is important in Uganda. This is because of the fact that the population is growing and there are less Ugandans with whom the children can learn English. Today, the country has no only English as a Second Language teachers, but also English Tutors. Therefore, a lot of Ugandan students will want to learn English, even if they are not native English speak ers.Fifthly, Dapo Dika stresses the importance of offering alternative methods in class in order to allow the children to express themselves, but the teacher must know how to work with children of all ages. On the whole, it is important for teachers to work with children of all ages, because they can have difficulties in dealing with children of all ages.Sixthly, Teaching English as a Second Language is indeed an effective way to lead a better life. It will allow the child to be able to speak the language and to be able to express himself/herself, while at the same time earning a living. It will also give the children an opportunity to travel and to attend university to have the chance to become a business person.Seventh, in the classroom, the ultimate aim is to provide an atmosphere which allows children to have their own goals and demands. It is in such an atmosphere that the children will learn how to manage and to take care of themselves, allowing them to achieve their dreams.
